My name is Tom Anderson. I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Practitioner. If you are considering seeking help for a psychological problem, which is impacting on your life then this site may be of interest to you. Many people find themselves struggling at certain times with sadness, distress, anxiety and uncertainty. When you find these feelings are continuing to trouble you then professional assistance could be worthwhile. I offer a responsive service to people experiencing difficulties with depression, anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), phobias, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), worry and GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) and other life stresses including those linked with work difficulties, loss and relationship issues.
Deciding to have therapy can take courage. I understand that anyone in this position needs to feel safe and respected. It is important that the client can trust and engage with the therapist from the outset. It would certainly be a priority for me to ensure that this was achieved so that therapy could be effective and rewarding.
I have spent the past 12 years actively using CBT to help many people I’ve worked with in Dorchester and Weymouth understand and manage their difficulties better. I work with adults and also younger people from 13 years onwards.
Training, qualifications & experience
MSc (Professional & Policy Studies / Community Health), BSc. hons (Psychological interventions for psychosis), PG dip (High Intensity CBT training), training in IPT (Interpersonal Therapy for depression), Registered Mental Health Nurse, Registered General Nurse, Community Mental Health Nursing Certificate.
I have completed training in EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) for trauma.
In addition I also have experience in tinnitus counselling (please see the contact me page of this website)
Since 2008 I worked as part of an IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service. Prior to this I had many years working within mental health services, including a period as a clinical team leader.
