At the assessment appointment we will clarify the problems you most want to address and agree how this can be achieved. CBT is a structured approach, which enables you to identify and challenge unhelpful thinking and beliefs, which may be maintaining your low mood and anxiety.
We might also look at behaviours, which could be exacerbating your difficulties without you being fully aware. There are a range of strategies, which can be used within CBT, but the important thing is that it is totally collaborative. This means as the client you will be an active participant in achieving change for yourself rather than passively receiving treatment. In this sense you will understand how the process is helping you step-by-step and are more likely to gain lasting benefit.
After each appointment I will offer to send you an email summary of what we’ve discussed. This can be helpful to refer to and give you a focus for anything you may wish to work on before our next meeting.
CBT is an evidence-based and time limited therapy in terms of the number of appointments required. I am able to see clients at my premises in the attractive setting of the Buttermarket in Poundbury, Dorchester. There is parking available in the open area in front of the building. In addition there is disabled access to the consulting room.
I can also offer therapy via Skype or FaceTime. I do not normally offer home visits but this may be negotiable in particular circumstances.
I can offer flexible times for appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as Saturday mornings and some evenings. I generally have less availability on Mondays and Fridays.
